CLUCK stands for Canadian Liberated Urban Chicken Klub and that's exactly what we are. We support the notion of keeping chickens in urban areas (particularly within the City of Red Deer, Alberta) and believe that it is entirely possible, even plausible, that chickens in urban areas are a benefit to the community.
Properly managed urban chickens are NOT noisy, smelly, polluting, annoying, or in any other way a problem. We support a City of Red Deer bylaw amendment that will allow the keeping of chickens within city limits yet will also empower the City to intervene in cases where problems may arise.
We gladly take on the responsibility of educating and supporting current and potential urban chicken-keepers to ensure properly managed flocks.
We care about the community; our own homes, our near neighbours, the entire city of Red Deer, and the surrounding communities. We are educated, experienced adults (and families) who have done (and continue to do) research on the topic of urban hens and are excited about what we have read, seen, experienced.
